What is Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)?

  • PCIT is the only evidenced based (science backed) behavioral therapy for families with children ages 2-7.9.

  • PCIT works with parents AND their young children together to reduce externalizing behaviors such as aggression, ADHD, ADD, ODD, depression, anxiety, and/or any unwanted behaviors.

  • PCIT is delivered in your home, remotely. We can’t expect change to come solely from the therapist’s office. Change must occur within our natural environment.

  • PCIT is a treatment developed by a female researcher named Dr. Shelia Eyberg and has been studied for the last 30 years by behavioral research universities.

  • PCIT has two components:

    1. Relationship enhancement (parents are taught how to decrease negative attributions towards child and to develop and foster communication).

    2. Strategies for compliance (parents learn specific skills for effective discipline and behavioral management).

During PCIT, the parent wears a listening device,

such as a Bluetooth,

which allows the therapists to provide in the moment feedback,

to help parents in real time,

as they interact with their child.
